Pre-Treatment Instructions
1. Discontinue Accutane 6 months prior to treatment.
2. Discontinue use of Retinoic Acid (Retinol) products 2 weeks to treatment.
3. Avoid sun exposure or the use of tanning beds and self-tanners for at least 2-4 weeks, prior to and/or between your treatments (dependant on skin type).
4. Report all skin diseases, viruses, infections, cold sores, eczema or allergies. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus or shingles the treatment may cause an outbreak, consider using prophylactic antiviral treatment 24 hours prior to your treatment.
5. Do not exfoliate, use glycolic acid, benzyl peroxide or any other skin irritants for one week prior to treatment.
6. Discontinue using bleaching creams for 2 weeks prior to treatment and perfumed products (including aromatherapy oils/essential oils) for 48 hours before treatment.
8. Avoid microdermabrasion or peels for a minimum of two weeks prior to treatment.
9. If the skin is red, irritated or sunburned, the laser treatment may be rescheduled.
10. Report all medication taken within 2 weeks of the treatment.
12. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours prior to the clinical treatment.
13. Avoid swimming in strong chlorinated water immediately before your treatment.
Post Treatment Care
Day 1 (Day of the treatment)
You will be feeling a mild to moderate burning sensation with redness and possibly mild swelling over the next few days, similar to a sunburn. You may have some areas of pinpoint bleeding, especially with more aggressive treatments. If bleeding occurs ensure you are keeping the areas clean.
Apply a cold compress for no longer than 10 min at a time as needed if your skin is feeling uncomfortable due to the heat. (You can put a clean damp facecloth in the freezer to make a compress at home)
Dry Healing: Day 1 and Day 2.
1. You can wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat dry.
2. You can apply Aloe if needed for the first 2 days. (Avoid any oil-based products for a minimum of 48hrs.)
3. Do not scratch or rub the skin. Pat skin to dry.
4. You may shower and wash face with warm water.
5. Avoid hot tubs, Saunas, hot showers, heavy workouts that will make you hot and any serums, creams, cleansers and/or lotions that may irritate the skin, especially anything oil based.
6. Avoid make up to the treatment areas.
7. Avoid the sun! If you do need to go outside wear a hat and keep the treatment area out of the sun. (Do not apply SPF Day 1 and Day 2)
Day 3 – Re-epithelialization
You may continue to feel a mild burning sensation over the next few days. Your skin may feel tight and itchy. You may have some mild swelling. You will notice a grid like pattern scabs on your skin.
1. Wash gently with a mild soap free cleanser to ensure you are keeping your skin clean.
2. Starting today apply a hydrating barrier cream such as Eucerine Aquaphor Healing Ointment morning and night.
3. You may apply a light layer of foundation on Day 3 but ensure it can be removed with a mild cleanser and minimal friction.
4. Do not rub or scratch the skin if itchy.
5. If needing to go outside insure you are wearing a hat as well as SPF (minimum of 30).
6. You may treat areas with an antibiotic cream if you wish at the discretion of your physician.
7. The priority is still to keep the area clean to avoid infection.
After Re-epithelialization (Day 5+)
You will start to see improvement of skin texture and discolorations as well as glowing skin.
1. Continue to use a daily SPF of 30 or greater. Wear a hat when in the sun.
2. Day 5 Resume your daily skin care regime. Be sure to include Hyaluronic Acid and Vit C serums for optimal results.
3. Day 7 you may use a mild exfoliant. Use gently.
4. You will start to notice results around 1 week and will continue to see the changes over the next few weeks.
5. You can book your next appointment 4-6 weeks after your treatment.
